If you want your mount to look its best then you need to take proper care of it after you have harvested the specimen.
Fish: DO NOT GUT the fish. Keep it whole, wrap in a wet towel or shirt, then wrap in foil or plastic wrap and freeze if you are not able to get it to us immediately. Take a photo as soon as you catch it as the color fades very quickly. When you bring it in we will check it over for defects which will be noted on the work order; you will choose a pose for the fish; then we get to work!
Birds: DO NOT Dress the bird. Keep the bird whole, wrap it well with head tucked under wing to help preserve the beak and head, then freeze it until you can bring it to us.
Small Game: Get the specimen to us as soon as possible. If you have to freeze it be sure to wrap it well so the ears, feet, nose, etc. will not get freezer burned.
Deer Heads: There are specific measurements that we need to take to order the proper size form for you specimen so it is best if you bring the head in intact. To remove the head from the rest of the body you need to hang by the hind legs, then cut around the deer behind the front legs to separate the front and back halves. Then cut around the front legs below the knees to free that skin, then cut up the back of the legs to meet the cut you made around the body. Once you have freed the front from the back you can roll the skin toward the neck so you can remove the mead. DO NOT MAKE CUTS IN THE NECK as we use a method that does not require this cut. If you have questions about skinning the deer be sure to call for further directions - 607-753-0820.
Big Game: If you have a trip planned and are not sure how to care for your specimen please call for directions.
If in doubt about how to care for your specimen call us for information so we can provide you with a mount you will be proud to display for years to come - and pass on to your heirs.
